Hi all,

I have an issue with a Can-Am Defender DPS. When in High/Low/Reverse/4wd/2wd/rear diff lock on/off and I apply the accelerator, the engine revs fine but the power is not transferred to the wheels very well.

It seems like something is slipping in the drivetrain area, and there is a smell of burning rubber.

I am not use to these kind of transfers so I don't really know what to look at. My understanding is engine revs -> primary clutch spins -> primary closes -> belt is gripped -> secondary spins -> belt is gripped -> gearbox receives power

There are rubber burn marks on the primary clutch valley but not in the secondary. There is also no resistance on the secondary clutch when spinning it by hand whether in P or N, and while spinning the primary clutch is not moving. The belt sits loosely in the primary clutch valley and the not as loose in the secondary clutch (but still loose)

The belt itself looks pretty much like new. No obvious scouring or ripping etc. The fact that I smell burning rubber and see scouring on the primary clutch i am thinking that is the issue, but uncertain how to fix or to take further.

Any ideas?
