2019 Camo Lonestar - Long-term build

I appreciate the input, Mark. Guess I’ll pass on the ones in the front for sure. I throw my binos in the upper open area on the dash currently. I had though of using the current bono place for a head unit at some point when I do my radio install, and throw the binos in the hole below and use some of those rubber nets, but guess I’ll do something different.

Took the lonestar out to the ranch on Saturday and did quite a bit of riding with the family. We have a lot of sand and a little mud in a few places. We’ve had close to 10” of rain the past month so the muddy spots were pretty soggy. I decided to try them out in the defender where I previously go stuck in my old mule. I just have some Carnivore tires on now, and made it through just fine. I did learn you have to spin the carnivores pretty good to clean them out in our type of mud. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pics or videos of any of the terrain, but got a few of Mama and the two boys. My oldest had a blast finding sheds. And I found the coyote I shot a few months back.

Since we were out and about this past weekend, I realized quickly I needed another gun mount in the back. The pic in the last post, everyone was in the back to keep them away from the gun in the center seat up front. So, we stopped by candelas on the way home this morning and picked up another Kolpin Mount for the back seat. Now I can put my rifle in the back and everyone can ride up front. And I remembered to take pictures of the plastic I trimmed on the underside of the seat. Install in the back is identical to the front seat that I pointed out in one of the first couple of posts.

I had a pair of dikes handy so I just used them instead of digging my drimmel tool out.

Another question...on the Kohlpin Rhino XL gun clamps, it appears that you do not lose the use of the middle seat, so do you remove the gun clamps or is there room under the seat to fold it down without removing the clamps?

Heading to San Antonio to order my custom tomorrow morning!!

You don't lose the functionality of the middle seat. When I don't have my rifle with me, that seat stays folded down and there's plenty of room for the clamps to clear the floor.

Sorry, but this is the only pic I have with it folded down.

Thanks for all the help!   Went to school on your build.    Delivery should be in a few weeks...will post pics then.   Love the Lone Star with the camo!!

Thanks! I really liked the black plastic with the metal flake look to it, but I'd have it scratched up in a heart beat. I figured with the camo plastics being hydro-dipped from the factory, it would hold up much better to the brush I drive through. Plus, I just like camo lol.

Not a whole lot of an update other than ordering some green rock lights. I did get a chance to test out these Maxxis Carnivores though. I guided a black buck hunt outside of Brady, Tx this past weekend and went through just about everything. Sand, rocks, mud, steep tank dams and I was extremely impressed with these tires. There’s been a ton of rain out there the past couple of months and even drove right through the middle of a muddy deep plowed field and did fine. I did learn I’ll be getting the larger set of the factory fender flares. We were covered in mud lol

Just finished my Kolpin gun holder install #715001421 in the same place under the center seat using a different method. I cut a piece of 0.50 aluminum 3" x 9 1/8", this fits across the bottom square tubing on the seat at the top when the seat is up, I used the Kolpin brackets to mark the holes 4 for each grip on the aluminum and drilled all 8 holes with a 1/8" bit. I used the template to mark the outside 2 holes on each side where the aluminum will be screwed to the square tubing. The inside 4 holes I used a 1/4" x 1 1/4" bolt to bolt the holders to the aluminum. Before attempting to mount the assembly to the square tubing I predrilled the 4, 1/8" holes (2) per side and secured the whole thing to the square tubing using 4, #10 x 1 1/2" self tapping screws. I started each of the screws into the holes to make the install easier prior to trying to mount the assembly. The self tapping screws were run in and tightened with a 5/16" wrench, no trimming required. My kit had big plastic bobby pins that lock the grip into a fixed angle, I mounted mine one click out from TDC. I would attach a picture but don't know how to do that? FYI
Here is the picture showing the mod.

Added a rear view mirror this evening. Seems like it’s pretty decent quality just unboxing it and installing it. Zero instructions were included so you have to just look at the pic on the front of the box and figure it out.

I flipped mine upside down so it didn’t hang down so low.

Does the mount interfere with your windshield at all?

I apologize, I kind of forgot about this page.

No, the mirror doesn't interfere with it at all. My mirror did crack right down the center during deer season...wasn't too thrilled about it, but haven't taken the time to replace it yet.

Howdy! Just bought a Defender XT HD8 and need to know about whether or not to install a windshield and if so what type. Please help. Any other must haves....this is going to be fun....lol   thanks, Tojo

Haven’t been around in a while but have done quite a bit since then.
-S3 springs

- SATV forward front arms

-removed both sway bars

-32” carnivores. Traded the old 30” carnivores for a set of 30” outback maxx tires that were awesome in the mud but were super rough on hard pack. Went back to the carnivores and happy again

-just last night I put a tough country front bumper on and I’m still working on re-routing the winch cable.

Took a trip out to Hidden Falls and did a Little Rock climbing with the 32s. I was the smallest tire in our group but managed to do fairly well.
