After weeks of research on finding a quiet SxS I suddenly stumbled on the dirt trax review of the 2017 HD8 where they say it is very, very quiet...like a sewing machine. No other review of any other machine says this.

I thought...hey this is IT! FINALLY. Then I start reading that the HD10 is actually quieter, then that the HD7 with the 50HP ACE is quieter than all of them, then of course that the new HD11 with the 95HP triple ACE is the quietest etc.

I joined the forum to get the input of actual users...the most important feature I am looking for is QUIET...in a non cab SXS preferably without doors to do work around the 18 acre property. I have used a rhino 450 for 15 years and it is still doing the job...but I am tired of the very loud noise, the carb, the tight bucket seats, the 33 mph limiter and the locked rear diff. The defenders address all of this....even with the 50 HP HD8.

Feedback? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum @flyinghigh - I would be interested to know your thoughts if you do go test drive a few different models. If budget isn't a concern, the HD11 would probably be the way to go.

I have an HD8 and i think it is pretty quiet. My uncle has a gator and it’s much louder than my defender but that is all I have to compare it too.

Thanks everyone...I have since done a lot of reading on the defender series and see lots of electrical, motor and transmission issues in all years...I am a bit nervous now about the product.

Have a look at the Defender garage/builds section for ideas on how to add additional sound deadening to the cab if its not quiet enough. My 2019 came without any sound deading and it is what it is. As far as reliability mine is not a high miler but it has never been back to the dealer. Forums tend to be places where people come to post their complaints and Defenders are no different than any other type of vehicle that people buy and vent on forums. FWIW!

I don’t have a lot of miles on mine either but have had it for 6 years and only issue I have had is a fouled plug.
