Tire Sealant

Happy Saturday all.  

I was out in the Defender today clearing some brush at the hunting lease. Noticed there are some large thorns from mesquite trees and got to wondering if I should go ahead and put tire sealant in for preventative measures or not?

Anyone else use it?  Thanks in advance!

This looks like an interesting water based product, does anyone know if it freezes in the winter time during subzero temperatures? Does freezing damage the product?

I received an email from tireject stating that the product becomes ineffective at -10F/-23C but does not freeze solid so it does not affect wheel balance below that temperature. Once above -10F it is effective once again, my take away is the product becomes too viscous below -10F to properly seal the hole but is unaffected by freezing temperatures. Information for those of us that might use the product where freezing temperatures occur.

Well, I procrastinated too long. Went to take the Defender out today to do some work and tire was flat. I haven’t pulled wheel off yet but I’m betting it’s a mesquite thorn. Once I get it repaired, I will be purchasing some of this for precautionary measure!

Please let us know what you experience has been once you have installed and used the sealant for a while. If it works well that may be difficult to answer other than no more flats?

Sure will Andy! For the stock tire, you think i should get 10 oz or 12 oz per tire?

The website has some recommendations, you could start with the minimum and may have to top up if you get several punctures over time or if you buy the gallon you can use a bit extra right from the start? You could also ask your question to the help desk on the web, they seem to respond quickly.

Update- I put the Tireject in the Defender’s tires this morning so we’ll see how everything goes.  The whole process was pretty simple!

Quick update....been almost a month and the tires are doing great.  No sign of any leaks and maintaining pressure!

Have used Tireject for last 2 years. Lots of mesquite thorns, cactus and mesquite staubs. It worked great. Just bought new defender xmr went to add tire sealant, but researched it first. Tireject good for 2 years and plugs holes up to 3/8". Found Multiseal, good for 10 years and fills holes up to 1/2" and cheaper than Tireject...???

I have used both Tireject and Multiseal. Both work. Tireject says it's good for 2 years, Multiseal says it's good for 10 years. Price is about the same.
