New guy (old) with a question

Howdy all.  I just took possession of a brand spankin new 2020 Defender HD8.  I have only driven it around the farm but there seems to be a problem.  In high gear the best speed I can get is about 12mph and at that speed the engine seems to surge up and down. 

Sooooooo  any thoughts on whats up.  Is there something I can do to fix this or do I need to go back to the dealer ?  I am 73 years old and not really a good mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.

Congrats on your new Can-am do you have your seat belt fastened.

Hello sir,  make sure u ou have the seat belt fastened.  If not the speed will be limited.  Be safe!

I’m right there with ya ‘! 

I just purchased the HD10 DPS and am still finding my way around it!  My first upgrade was a torque locker for the front. I don’t do (3) wheel drive!

Welcome to the community huntschool! The safety Sam part of me says “don’t do this” but...There’s a $10 part you can buy on amazon or eBay that plugs into the wires for the seatbelt sensor to override the limiter. Or you can cut and connect the wires yourself for almost nothing. 

Don't try this at home, no liability and all that stuff goes along with that tip

JDK:  Thanks for that info.  I have dealt with the seat belt thing before although I now wear mine regularly in my daily ride.  There is more then one way to skin a cat so to speak....   LOL

I fastened my drivers seat belt into the middle seat buckle... not saying this is what you should do. But that’s how I got around that issue.

Thanks all for the help.  Stupid me, I never thought about the seatbelt thing.  All is now well.

you can buy a bypass jumper for only a couple dollars on the internet if you don't want to wear the seatbelt around the acreage but want full power and speed.

 As far as it goes... My Defender came with the  adapter.... I take my seatbelt and connect it and leave it connected without putting it around me. And NO GADGET NEEDED...  Not sure why anyone would need an extra part to do this.... but I guess if that's what it takes.... Good luck
