HD8 can't select reverse gear

Hi everyone, I've got a 2018 HD8 Pro, it won't engage reverse gear, goes into hi and low with no issue.  Reverse chain is intact, any ideas what it could be?

Is there a quick way to fault find without pulling the gearbox and splitting?

will it find reverse if you move the handle back and forth while rocking it or it wont engage at all?  could be a linkage issue but it doesnt sound like that is the case.
