Can heater and mud

Has anyone had any experience with having a cab heater and going through water/mud over the heater core?  Does the heater core stay clean?  Is it a big deal to clean them?  
 

I have an Xmr that goes on maybe two trips a year where the mud is deep. Just curious the best way to heat the cab.
